Let’s talk about workout wellness. First of all, I am a licensed massage therapist, but I am in NO WAY a fitness professional or expert. (Way to sell it, I know 😏). Listen... I am not in shape, I know. I am working on losing weight and getting fit myself. I am a work in progress, so you can read this little blog and take it as a “girlfriend’s guide to...”, and get a second opinion from a medical expert before trying something new. That being said...I know about workout pain, I know about massage, I know a little about wellness. Do I personally practice these things...yes, I “practice” all the time and practice makes perfect...
There are a few things that I feel have helped me tremendously in the past, oh, 3 years or so with pain management. Now, I’m not talking about chronic pain, or illness or disease associated pain...just the everyday, getting older, out of shape kind of aches and pains...but they probably could help more severe pain as well (again, do your own research and ask a medical professional). *CLICK THE HIGHLIGHTED LINKS FOR MORE INFO*
Ok, first, of course, is MASSAGE. Well, not just massage...of course manipulating muscle and tissue will give you some relief after a work out or just living the stressful life...but good, deep tissue massage with passive stretching is amazing. It’s “lazy man’s yoga“. There’s nothing better than being on a massage table getting treated, and then having someone else stretch you. I do offer this in every massage that I do.It doesn’t cost extra or take more time. It’s included in your custom massage.
Since we are on the subject of stretching ... we don’t do enough! Let’s face it, a few minutes at the end of a class or work out just two or three times a week doesn’t cut it. I highly recommend you consider taking up yoga, or trying stretching videos. My all time favorite is DDPY, mainly because it is truly good for all fitness levels and provides plenty of modifications. I’ve also found some YouTube videos that are gentle and beginner friendly.
A couple of years ago I came across a ad on Facebook for something called ASHLEY BLACK FASCIA BLASTER. It was intriguing and I love gadgets...so I bought one for myself. At the time there was just like 2-3 products. In just a few short years her business blew up and she has a full line of blaster products for body and face as well as oils and lotions, wrote a book that became best selling before it was even available....she won some kind of business award, too....be sure to check her website. When I started working out at Christi’s Fitness, I would go into the steam room after class or workout with the trainer, take my blaster and work my muscles with my blaster. Now previously, After work out I would be sore for days. The fascia blaster cuts that recovery time tremendously. It also helps with shaping muscles and improving the appearance of cellulite. There’s a whole science to it explained in her book and in her YouTube videos, so you can check that out for yourself. I do also use fascia blaster in my massage for clients who are super tight and have muscles like rocks.
About a year ago a friend of mine got me to try CBD supplements. That actually changed my life! Long story short, it helped me with anxiety and sleep deprivation. Now I take it every day, and because I love it so much I carry CBD supplement drops and a topical salve from BEAM and use the topical in my massages to treat inflammation and soreness. Beam’s tagline is “no THC just TLC“. That means there’s none of the hallucinogenic properties associated with marijuana in their product- it makes you healthy not high. Check out the video on my website’s CBD INFORMATION page. I highly recommend, if you haven’t done any research already, to just Google: “(your specific health concern)and CBD”. There are no contraindications or side effects from using CBD...but always do your own research!
So that’s just a few things I’ve tried personally and have had some success with. I hope that you would look into them as well and that you find at least one or two that may work for you as well. Thanks for taking the time to read this. I look forward to seeing you in my Massage and Facial spa studio soon!
